The Accident

The Accident.

This is the terrain that I spend a lot of time hiking on and through. As you can see there is a lot of granite. In case you did not know, granite is a very unforgiving surface and the human bone is going to lose a collision 10 times out of 10 with granite. On Sunday morning I was hiking down a granite trail when my foot slipped and slid between the rock I was walking on and another boulder. I heard my shin (tibia) snap when it made contact with the boulder and then because my ankle was pinned I could hear the snaps of the three ankle bones as they broke. I had enough presence of mind to rotate my body position, before the real pain began and then I dialed 911. Believe me when I tell you that it is the network. The highway patrol responded with a helicopter in 90 minutes! A long time to be laying there with a broken leg but considering where I was it was a remarkably short time.

This is a picture of what was to be my final destination. I have been told I can get back there in a year.
Next episode is the rescue.
