Battle of The Bulge

Last December, I went to the doctor for my annual "old man" physical. The end result of this trip was a clean bill of health...kind of...the exact language being "you are in great shape for a man of your age." On a side note it was suggested that I could probably afford to lose a pound or two. I grudingly had to agree with the weight comment and the day after New Years I embarked on a diet. Eight months later I had actually lost 40 lbs and was feeling pretty good about myself. (For those of you who are curious, I was on a low carb diet...the only way I can lose weight.)

Anyway, on Sunday I managed to get on a scale and to the best of my ability to make such a determination, I have gained five pounds in two weeks! For those of you who really know me, the weight gain has occurred with out the help of alcohol! To say that is unacceptable would be an understatement. At this rate I will weigh what I did last December before I get this dang cast off.

What further exacerbates the situation is that my orthopedist has put me on restriction. It seems that the swelling in my leg has not gone down as much as he hoped and he attributes part of that to my activity level. As of today, I am to do nothing for the next three days and then I will be re-evaluated.

So, in addition to waiting for my leg to heal, I am now going to have to monitor my caloric intake. Despite all this nonsense...I feel as though I am feeling better every day. If the swelling goes down as it is supposed to I will be fitted with a real cast next Tuesday and I have decided that I am going to go with the classic white color.

Once the cast goes on, I will be allowed to start doing a little working out and in another four weeks after that I should be moved to a boot and will then be able to start some rehab.

I am totally looking forward to the activity!
