Today was my first appointment with the Orthopedist who is going to be managing my care from here on out. The first thing he wanted was his own set of pictures. That was a piece of cake as it seems I am a bit more flexible, limber, strong than his typical customer. Anyway, the x-rays were takes and then I got to walk (with the help of my crutches) down to the casting room, which to my relieve had no couches but did have tables. I was deposited on a table between a 60 year old lady who had broken her ankle when her walker hit something and tumbled over, taking her with it and a 6 month old baby who was being put into a body cast in preparation for a spinal surgery she is having this Friday. Has the depressiveness of the situation sunk in yet?
So after sitting there for about 15 minutes listening to other's stories the attention then shifted to me. "Tell me young man, how did you hurt yourself?" "Well Ma'am it was like this. I was up in the mountains last weekend and saw some folks with their boat in a river and in trouble. I ran alongside the river on some rocks and just as a was able to throw them a rope and keep them from entering these rapids, I slipped the fell and broke my leg in four places. They flew a helicopter in and took me to Sonora and now I am now here getting "city" treatment. I just hope no one finds my crop before I can get back up there!"
I swear if I had left out that last comment, she would have believed the rest. Anyway the Doc came in cut off cast and I got to see for the first time the incisions and the thirty or more stitches that were required to put me back together. My leg modeling career is over before it began, but other than that the comments were all very favorable. Textbook surgery, no infection, no clotting. Come back and see us in two weeks and we will put an actual cast on.
So here is my first poll question: What should be the color of my first cast? Choices include white, black, green, purple, orange, red, pink, lime green or brown. Let me know your opinion. The cast does not go on until September 15.
As a final note...got much better drugs which means this kid will sleep tonight.
